EEO
KLEF has fewer than five employees so we are not required to file Equal Employment Opportunity reports with the FCC. We have plenty of other reports to file so we don’t envy larger stations which are required to file EEO reports. Nonetheless, this seems like a good place to say that discrimination based on race is among the more foolish and self-defeating activities in which human beings engage. Martin Luther King, Jr. apparently had more than his share of personal failings, and his detractors will never tire of repeating gossip about him, but he had one important idea exactly right: people should be judged on the content of their character. There are already too few really first rate employees who want to work in radio. It makes to sense whatever to exclude a job candidate for something as inconsequential as the color of their skin. Dr. King’s birthday is among the proudest of American holidays. Even those dim bulbs who insist on denigrating his ideals should be able to figure out that racism is bad for business.
